My art is inspired by current events and pop culture and is influenced by my background as a biomechanical and electrical engineer. As an engineer, I used to experiment with the mechanical properties of heart valves; now, I experiment with the properties of color on my subjects. My training in engineering and art allows me to approach my works logically and creatively.
I am most well-known for my large scale murals around my hometown of Pittsburgh, but my art extends to works on canvas, glass, metal, and clothing- anything is a possible canvas. I prefer working with spray paints, though I also use oils, acrylic, pen & ink, and a multitude of other mediums. I am in a constant state of experimentation while working out of my home studio, which serves as a piece of art itself. By spraying the exterior walls, fences, and sidewalks of my home, it becomes an ever-evolving exhibit of my murals.
The focus of my art is portraiture, but I enjoy branching out to different subject matter, as evident in the variety of my murals. No matter the subject or canvas, I apply my expressionist style, which is influenced by pop art and postmodernism. Each project begins with a creative concept, and then I let the location, dimensions, and needs of my patron guide me toward the finished design.
My work acts as a guide for people to see something they didn’t think could exist. It transforms walls and surfaces into possibilities.
